Good evening all, well hasn’t it been a long time since we’ve spoken. I kind of came to the conclusion that by updating the blog too often would become boring and tedious for the both of us, so with larger gaps I will be able to tell you more and the suspense will hopefully make it more exciting to both read and write.
So where did we leave off? Oh yes, Bondi, well I left there not too long after we last spoke in search of the American Dream……basically I needed some work and could not find any in Sydney, so I decided to go to Melbourne where it is cold in the thought that there wouldn’t be too many backpackers and would therefore be much easier to find work. I flew from Sydney which was only a 2 hour flight, I could have taken the coach but that would have taken 12 hours so it was a bit of a no brainer to be honest! So upon arriving in Melbourne I made my way to my hostel via the shuttle bus and then a taxi. I decided to stay in a hostel called ‘The Ritz for Backpackers’ and if anyone is ever in Melbourne and looking for a hostel I would highly recommend this place. Of all the hostels I have stayed in so far this is by far the nicest, friendliest, cleanest etc. My first night consisted of meeting a group of welsh lads and another few boys from the north. Upon my arrival they were already drinking goon and so I kindly decided to join in and make a night of it. We went out and I got to check out a lot of the scenery of where I was staying and what exactly was going on. My hostel is on the main strip of bars and clubs and is only a 5 minute walk away from the beach. Its just a shame its so cold here all of the time. I only packed 2 jumpers with me for the entire trip and I have to wear them all of the time…..people must think I’m a right skank. Anyway, I have decided in this entry not to go through a day by day routine for 2 main reasons; 1)I have done a lot of going out and drinking and we all know how them nights turn out don’t we……very drunk….eating fast food…..and falling asleep in the tv room of the hostel. 2) I have been in Melbourne for ages now and after not updating my blog for so long I cannot remember a hell of a lot since being here. Bad times ay!
I have however met up with a few people from home since I have been here. Turns out 2 people from my uni, Izzy and Robbie, are also in Melbourne and I have met up with them for a few nights. Izzy also very kindly set me up with a job in a bar at weekends. Its only glass collecting but the pay is good and its actually nice to have some money coming in for a change instead of constantly going out. Its also nice to see a familiar face once in a while. Although I have enjoyed travelling alone, its always good to have someone you know around, just makes things that bit better.
So it also turns out there is a casino about a 10 minute tram ride away from me. Now those of you that know me well will also know of my love for casino’s and gambling! So it would be fair to assume that I have been there a few times…..and your assumptions would be correct! Obviously I have lost money in there, but it is also a landmark moment as for the first time in my casino career I have also left with MORE money than I entered with. This has now happened on 2 occasions and I am extremely happy with this outcome. Maybe there is a future in it for me……hmmmmm……doubtful but we can all dream.
And to be perfectly honest not much else has happened of these past few weeks. It has kind of reminded me of my first 6 weeks at university being in halls. There is just a constant flow of going out at night and sleeping all day. To be honest it does start to become slightly tedious and that is why I have decided to travel up the coast a lot sooner than planned. I am actually leaving Melbourne to head up the East Coast on the 2nd June. I had a very good offer from Izzy and decided to take her up on it. So we will be on a massive road trip to warmer climates and hopefully some amazing scenes. This is where I will begin to post pictures and update my blog more regularly as I will be moving from place to place on a regular basis and my real travelling can begin.
I hope this section has not been too dull for you…….but keep posted as the real adventure starts in 6 days…..bring it on.
