Good afternoon all. Howz things going? I know its been a while since my last update, but things have quietened down a bit since we last spoke. I have kinda come to the realisation that im not really on a year long holiday and by going out every night and eating out every day I will run out of money and have to come home a lot sooner than expected.
So what has happened since ‘The Beginning Chapter’…ok….so lets get this out the way first of all, yes I did wake up for the arsenal vs. spurs game at 5am, yes I did see Danny Rose score a ridiculous goal (let’s face it, any squirrel can find a nut once in a while) and yes I did see us get beaten. No excuses, we lost! And yes I have read all about the Wigan game and am fully aware of how appalling we have been…..all I have to say to this is that im in Australia and no one here cares about football and none of you can give me any bant cos your all the way over the other side of the world. So that’s the end of that!
Ok, so after watching the defeat I went back to bed in a foul, bitter mood, not to awake until about 5pm. By this time it was about time I started drinking, so I sat outside the hostel in the social area with a crate of beer and drank long into the night. I mainly received bant from all the spurs fans there, but by this time I was drunk so really couldn’t care less. There were quite a few cool people I met there, no one to particularly make note of (which may seem harsh but…..meh) so I ended up crashing about 2am. A good relaxing night in all!
The following day I felt guilty about spending so much time in bed and so decided to jump on the tourist bandwagon. I got up reasonably early and walked down to see the Sydney Opera House and Harbour bridge. They were both pretty cool and I had some lunch sitting on the harbour over looking these two famous monuments. Unfortunately I still did not have a working camera so no pictures which is a bit of a shocker, but there are plenty of pictures on the net etc. of these places, so I wasn’t getting myself too worked up. After walking around for a bit I decided I had seen enough and returned to the hostel. It was now Friday night and I was convinced by several people that it would be rude not to go out. So once again we sat outside with a crate of beer and cracked on. The hostel was running a trip to a club called Soho. In all honesty, it was poor. The music was good, a lot of house, but it was small, full of men and uber expensive. So after a few jager bombs and after tearing apart the D-floor for a while, I headed back with a few peeps and hit the hay. I actually had to check out at 9am the following day, so this was probably best.
11.30am Saturday morning I am rudely awoken to ‘This is a message for Adam Gotfraind, check out is at 9am. Please check out immediately to ensure you can receive your deposit back.’ Whoops, so I was up and out in about 20 minutes. I was moving down to Bondi Beach. This is where I mentioned in my previous post, I loved the place so much that I booked into a hostel on the beach front for a week and is where nat and ste live. This place really is amazing, I do have pictures now but I have no lead to link my camera to my pc……useless I know. Anyway, if ya wanna see it jus type Bondi Beach into Google and it’ll come up. So I spent most of the day on the beach, tanning it up, well trying to tan it up anyway then I was meant to be meeting Ste for drinks in the evening. I thought it best to have a short nap before which eventually turned into a 13 hour sleep and me waking up the following morning. In the words of Jo B ‘Oooops’.
So now it was Sunday, I had been invited to go out with Nat and her friend Shanie. Shanie is from East London and is a real cool gal. I had spent most of the day on the beach getting sunburnt and we were going to see a DJ called Derrek May. He was a house DJ and when we turned up to the club is was real nice. In the entrance was a massive room with really high ceilings and a huge circular bar in the middle of the room with a DJ in the corner. I thought it was amazing and couldn’t wait to see the main room where we would be. This was downstairs in the club and was…..how is the best way to describe it……small and grimey. There were loads of people packed into this tiny, really hot room, but the tunes were banging and I actually had a really good night. Cheap….it was not…but I still had a rite laugh. Shanie couldn’t keep up with the drinking pace however and went home early after being sick. Seems as though these londeners jus cant keep up with the pace ay. I arrived back at about 3am and staggered home in a less than respectable state. Swagga at its best!
Monday and Tuesday were quiet nights for me. This is where I decided to rest and mainly just chilled on the beach then watched TV in the evenings. During this time I did managed to get a charger for my camera which was a touch, but all in all they were pretty uneventful days.
So then came Wednesday and it was time for some more action. I was up early and went to do the ‘Skywalk’ with Ian, Aaron and Carly. The two guys are the blokes who I am currently in a dorm with and Carly is one of the chicks from upstairs. Skywalk is the highest building in Sydney and you basically get to walk around the viewing platform over glass panels. In all honesty, it was good, but not that good. Its always the same with tall buildings, you get really excited about going to the top of them then when you get there, its never really that good. But at least it was something to do which was a bit out of the ordinary. Sydney City Centre is actually really nice, there aren’t really the sorts of skyscrapers you see in London and other major cities, but its got a nice feel about the place and it seems to be reasonably relaxed for such a large place.
The evening of Wednesday was quite a big occasion in my Australian career so far. I was introduced to Goon. Your probably thinking the same as I was when I was told about this, what the hell is that. Well….Goon is a wine which you can buy out here. You get 4 litres of 12% (plus 10% extra free) white wine in a box. This stuff is absolute rocket fuel and at 10-12 bucks per box is absolutely perfect. Apparently its called Goon as this is the aboriginal word for pillow. Once people were finished with the drink, they would take the empty bag out of the box, blow it up and use is as a pillow. Quite clever I thought! Anyway, so this combined with drinking games = a real cheap night of getting hammered. So this ended in us going out and being refused from almost every club for being too intoxicated. Well not so much me, we all know how well I can hold my drink, but some people were a bit of a mess. They’re actually proper strict over here, a bit ridiculous if you ask me!! So it ended up in a dorm party instead, this kinda sucks when its 20 degrees and theres 8 of you in one room all drunk n that. You can imagine, not really the best but it was still fun. To be honest, from what I’ve heard there is no such thing and a not fun Goon night!
So anyway here I am again, laying on my bed, feeling terrible, writing my blog. I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Im getting the feeling that its getting a bit repetitive really, but what can I do!? Peace out rude boys, keep in touch, love you all and if any of you like what you hear and fancy a break, get ur asses out here!!
Oh by the way, for anyone reading this from the Oarsmen or a select few from 15a, everywhere here sells Mi Goreng noodles. At 61 cents per pack im basically living of them and we all know how good they are. You wouldn’t have believed how excited I was when I saw them!
